Why autism awareness matters
The World Health Organization describes autism as a diverse group of conditions related to the development of the brain, and estimates that about 1 in 127 people had autism in 2021. The abilities and needs of autistic people vary widely and can change over time. Some live independently, and others need life-long support.
Because autism is often misunderstood, autistic people can face stigma, exclusion and barriers at school, at work and in everyday life. Understanding the facts is the first step to being a good friend, colleague, parent or neighbour. This quiz covers common myths, autistic traits, communication and sensory experience, and practical ways to support autistic people.
